How to use an online clipboard more safely
An online clipboard makes transfers convenient; safety still depends on what you share, how you protect access, and what you clean up afterward.
Decide whether the content belongs in an online transfer
An online clipboard is suitable for temporary text and ordinary files, but not every secret should be pasted or uploaded. Passwords, private keys, recovery phrases, complete identity documents, and unredacted customer data need tools designed for those risks.
If information should not appear in chat history, email, or a public cloud drive, it usually should not enter an online clipboard without additional encryption either.
Do not treat the clipboard address as a password
A hard-to-guess address reduces accidental discovery, but it is not access control. URLs can appear in browser history, synced tabs, screenshots, forwarded messages, or in view of someone nearby.
Use a separate password for private material. When practical, send the address and password through different channels.
When you use a shared or unfamiliar computer
- Prefer a private browsing window so the address is not kept in long-term history
- Do not let the browser save the password or enable account synchronization
- Remove local download records and unneeded downloaded copies
- Close every related tab and confirm that no download is still running
- Return to your own device and remove the online content or cancel the share
Deletion, expiration, and backup are different things
Manual deletion is for cleaning up as soon as the task is complete; automatic cleanup after 7 days is only a fallback. Neither one replaces a backup or revokes copies that recipients already downloaded.
Keep the original, confirm receipt, and then remove the temporary online copy for a more dependable transfer process.

- Would a specialized secure tool be more appropriate for this content?
- Is the temporary password different from passwords used on other accounts?
- Are the address and password being sent through separate channels?
- Does the address avoid personal information?
- Have you removed the content and closed the page after the transfer?
