Privacy Policy
Last updated:
This policy explains how the operator of clipboard.im ("we") handles information when you use our online clipboard, file sharing, guides, and feedback features. You can use the core service without registering an account. This policy is a notice about data use; it is not a substitute for consent where consent is required.
1. Information we process
Text you enter is automatically sent to our servers to save and synchronize it across devices. Uploading a file sends the file itself, not just a reference to a file on your device.
- Clipboard data: the clipboard name and address, text, uploaded files, file names, sizes and types, creation and update times, and the interface language used when creating a clipboard.
- Access and sharing data: password verification information, access cookies, share links, and sharing settings. Server-side passwords are stored as hashes. Your browser may also remember access information to reopen a protected clipboard or share.
- Feedback: the message you submit, your email address if you choose to provide it, interface language, browser User-Agent, and submission time.
- Technical and usage data: requests and visited URLs, IP address, browser and device information, referral source, timestamps, interactions, and diagnostic information processed by our hosting and analytics services.
2. Why we use information
We process information to save and deliver your text and files, synchronize devices, check access permissions, manage sharing and file expiry, respond to feedback and privacy requests, maintain security, diagnose problems, and understand how the service is used.
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we rely on providing the service you request, legitimate interests in operating and protecting the service, compliance with legal obligations, or consent where it is required for a particular activity. The basis depends on the information and purpose involved.
3. Who can access shared content
A clipboard address is an access link, not proof of your identity. Anyone who knows or guesses an unprotected clipboard address can read or change its contents. People with a read-only share link can view and download the shared content, subject to any password you have set. A recipient can copy a link, text, or file and share it further.
Password protection limits access; it does not make the service end-to-end encrypted. Our servers process readable text and files to provide the service, and the operator has administrative tools to access and manage stored content. HTTPS protects data in transit, but no storage or transmission method can guarantee complete security. Avoid using the service for highly sensitive information, and protect your links and shared devices.
4. Retention and deletion
- Uploaded files expire 7 days after upload and are no longer available through the normal download and preview interfaces after expiry. A scheduled task removes expired file contents from storage; actual cleanup can occur later or be retried after a failure.
- File expiry does not automatically erase its database record. File names, sizes, types, timestamps, clipboard associations, and cleanup status may remain until the corresponding file or clipboard record is deleted.
- Clipboard text and sharing settings do not use the 7-day file expiry rule. Text stays until it is overwritten, cleared, or deleted. The application does not offer text version history; this does not promise immediate removal of every infrastructure recovery copy or operational log.
- You can use the available controls to clear text, delete files or a clipboard, cancel sharing, or regenerate a share link when you have the required access. Cancelling sharing or changing a link cannot recall copies already saved by recipients.
- Feedback and operational records currently have no single automatic deletion deadline. Retention depends on handling the request, service operation, security, and applicable legal obligations. Analytics providers apply their own retention rules and account settings. Contact us to request deletion where applicable.
5. Cookies and browser storage
We use cookies and local storage to remember your language, theme, last clipboard, display preferences, and access to protected content. Some preferences can persist for up to a year, while access and session cookies have shorter lifetimes. Browser-stored access information should be treated as sensitive, particularly on shared computers.
Analytics services may also use cookies or similar identifiers as described below. You can inspect, block, or delete cookies and site data through your browser. Clearing browser data does not delete content stored on our servers and may remove remembered links, preferences, or access information. Blocking necessary storage may affect features.
6. Hosting and analytics services
The site currently integrates the following services. Analytics may receive the URL of the page you visit, including a clipboard name or share identifier. Avoid putting personal information or secrets in addresses or query parameters.
- Cloudflare provides website delivery, request processing, database storage, and file storage. It processes content and technical request information needed to deliver, secure, and operate the service.
- Google Analytics measures visits and interactions to help us understand traffic and improve the site. Google may receive page URLs, IP addresses, device and browser information, referral information, and cookie or device identifiers, and process data under its own policies.
- Microsoft Clarity provides interaction metrics, heatmaps, and session replay to help us understand navigation and usability problems. It can process clicks, scrolling, page structure and visible content subject to its masking settings, device information, and identifiers through cookies or similar technologies. Microsoft also processes this information under its Privacy Statement, including for the purposes described there.
- Our self-hosted Umami instance at umami.zijietang.com measures page visits, referral sources, device and browser information, and approximate geographic statistics. Umami is designed to work without analytics cookies; that does not make every other service on this site cookie-free.
7. Google advertising, if enabled
As of the update date above, Google AdSense advertising has not been enabled on clipboard.im. This section explains the intended use of advertising if it is enabled; Google Analytics and Clarity described above are already integrated.
If Google advertising is enabled, third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this site or other websites. Google's advertising cookies allow Google and its partners to personalize ads based on those visits. Other participating advertising vendors may also use cookies, web beacons, IP addresses, or similar identifiers for ad delivery, measurement, and fraud prevention.
You can manage or opt out of Google's personalized advertising in Google's ad settings, and use participating vendors' opt-out options through AboutAds. Opting out of personalization does not stop all data processing or all ads. Before activating advertising that requires consent, we will provide the required disclosures and consent choices, including an appropriate consent management platform where required. This policy alone does not give that consent.
8. Disclosure and international processing
Information is disclosed to recipients you give access to and to service providers involved in hosting, storage, analytics, and, if activated, advertising. We may also disclose information when required by law or necessary to investigate abuse, protect rights, or keep the service secure.
The services described above operate internationally. Your information may be processed outside your country or region, where data protection rules can differ. Their privacy notices explain how they handle data. Opening an external link or a file on another service is also subject to that service's practices.
9. Your choices and privacy requests
You can manage stored content using the controls described above, clear browser data, manage Google advertising choices, and use Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on where supported. Private browsing by itself does not prevent websites or providers from receiving technical and usage data.
Depending on where you live and the applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information, restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent, or complain to a data protection authority. These rights can be subject to exceptions. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing already carried out lawfully.
Email long401127@gmail.com, use the privacy contact button below, or use the feedback icon in the footer to contact the operator of clipboard.im. Include the type of request, information needed to locate the relevant record, and a reply email if you want a response. Do not send passwords or unnecessary identity documents. Because the service has no user accounts, we may need proportionate evidence of your authority over the data before fulfilling a request.
10. Children and policy updates
The service is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information that should be removed, contact us through the feedback feature. If local law requires parental permission for your use, obtain it before using the service.
We will update this page when our practices change and revise the date above. Where applicable law requires additional notice or consent for a material change, we will provide it.
