They all move content to another screen, but temporary handoff, publishable pastes, continuous sync, and local file transfer are different jobs.
Eliminate the wrong category first
The useful question is not which tool has the longest feature list. Ask where the recipient is, how long the content must remain available, and whether either side is willing to install software. A one-time handoff does not need an account system; devices you use all day should not require a fresh URL every time.

Online clipboards minimize steps for a temporary handoff
cl1p.net, Clipboardify, WebNote, and clipboard.im all center the same basic interaction: open an address, put something there, and retrieve it on another device. They are useful for temporary text, URLs, and files because a browser is enough and the recipient often needs no account.
The trade-off is that the link is commonly the access path. A custom short name is easy to type and easier to guess. Burn-after-reading ends future access to the source; it cannot erase a copy, screenshot, or download the recipient already made.
Pastebins optimize text for reading and reference
Pastebin, hastebin, JustPaste.it, and Codefile lean toward code, logs, rich text, or collaborative editing. Syntax highlighting, line numbers, titles, stable links, and visibility controls are the value—not frictionless clipboard sync.
PrivateBin and 0bin form a privacy-focused branch that encrypts in the browser or aims for zero-knowledge storage. A full URL may still carry the ability to decrypt, and a reader still trusts the JavaScript delivered by the instance. A normal password prompt is not automatically end-to-end encryption.
Sync apps fit frequent use on a stable set of devices
CrossPaste, KDE Connect, Pushbullet, and related tools make device communication persistent. Once installed and paired, they can remove the repeated address step; some also add history, file delivery, notifications, or remote controls.
Check whether content stays on the LAN, travels through an encrypted cloud service, or is attached to a third-party account. Also check Android and iOS background clipboard limits. The convenience comes from deeper system access, which is the defining difference from a web-only tool.
Local transfer usually wins for nearby large files
PairDrop, Snapdrop, and LocalSend focus on nearby-device discovery and file delivery. LocalSend is an installed client that can operate on a local network without internet access; PairDrop and Snapdrop lower the entry cost by running in a browser.
Use a cloud link when the recipient will arrive later or is on another network. Use local transfer when both devices are in the same room, especially for video or a batch of photos.
Four questions settle most choices
- Is the recipient online now, or do they need to collect the item hours later?
- Is this ordinary temporary material, or does it require a genuine end-to-end encrypted channel?
- Will this happen once or dozens of times every day?
- Are you moving a few lines of text or hundreds of megabytes?
